A majority of skilled professionals in medium-sized enterprises expect improvements in their work, achieved outcomes, and the future viability of their companies through automation with industrial robots. This is particularly true when implemented with user-friendly and adaptable Digital Robots in automation solutions.
Companies want to work with industrial robots in a way that is easy, fast to deploy, flexible, and safe. Moreover, they aim for their investment to pay off as quickly as possible. This is completely understandable, especially for smaller and medium-sized firms. The medium-sized sector is even more affected by increasing time pressure, the widespread shortage of skilled labor, and tight budgets compared to large corporations.
Solutions are available to address these challenges. For example, offerings from providers of cells or platforms, in or on which smaller industrial robots can work in a protected environment. Ideally, these enclosures come from the same manufacturer as the robot and its operating software. This way, users can avoid the hassle of integrating different components and save time before commissioning.
Alternatively, there are comprehensive solutions available in the robotics market that encompass all components, from the actual robot to peripheral components (such as grippers or suction cups, as well as camera systems and safety technology) up to the operating software.
Robot platforms prove to be particularly advantageous when they are flexible in their application, for example, through a modular design and the ability to connect to external machines or devices. In the realm of digital robots, this allows their benefits (simplicity, flexibility, connectivity in the Industrial Internet of Things) to be fully realized.
The use of mechatronic robot platforms makes it easier to implement applications with robots. This applies whether it's intended as a stand-alone solution or if integration with external machines and systems is necessary.
A modular design proves invaluable here. It allows for straightforward modifications to the cell in which a robot is integrated, such as removable side and back panels or connectors to the existing production system.
Some manufacturers of robot cells pre-integrate control cabinets. This facilitates the professional installation of additional peripherals – without cable clutter or questionable constructions. During operation, sealed cell doors and an externally located control console with an emergency stop switch enable safe work.
For an increasing number of applications, such as the flexible singulation of bulk material, there are now comprehensive robotic solutions available. Thanks to standardized technology and setups, companies can keep their costs in check even with complete robotic cell solutions. High prices, as with custom solutions, are eliminated.
Furthermore, companies have the option to implement subsequent process steps (such as output, inspection, or labeling of parts) or more complex customizations. There are also turnkey solutions available in the market for complex applications, such as laser labeling of parts.
